Frequently Asked Questions

The following answers address common questions concerning Eritrea Gaming license categories, applications, fees and continuing regulatory obligations.

Applicants should contact the Licensing Department where their proposed business model or ownership structure requires specific guidance.

Eritrea Gaming provides two principal license categories:

  • B2C Operator Licenses for companies providing internet gaming services directly to players
  • B2B Gaming Supplier Licenses for companies providing material platforms, software, games or technical services to gaming operators

The appropriate license depends on the activities performed by the applicant.

The license issuance fee is €10,000 for either a B2C or B2B license.

The annual renewal fee is also €10,000.

An additional domain fee of €300 per domain applies to approved additional B2C operational domains.

Additional administrative or regulatory fees may apply where a license amendment, ownership review, transfer or other special service is requested.

The license authorises the legal entity named on the license to conduct the activities approved by the Authority.

The scope includes:

  • Approved gaming or supplier activities
  • Approved trading names
  • Approved operational domains
  • Entry in the public license register
  • An official verification record
  • Use of the interactive license seal on approved domains

The license does not authorise another company or an unapproved domain to operate under the license holder’s name.

Processing time depends on the completeness of the application, the complexity of the ownership structure, the number of key persons, the proposed products and the results of due diligence.

Licenses can be provided in 5-10 business days if the application process is done correctly.

Applicants must normally provide:

  • Corporate formation documents
  • Ownership and beneficial ownership records
  • Director and key person information
  • Identification and address documents
  • Financial information
  • Source of funds evidence
  • Business plan
  • AML/CTF policies
  • Responsible gaming and player protection policies
  • Technical and security documentation
  • Domain and supplier information
  • Completed application forms and declarations

The Authority may request additional information depending on the application.

Fees are non refundable once application processing, regulatory review or license administration has commenced.

Applicants should review the applicable invoice, payment terms and refund policy before making payment.

Refusal, withdrawal or abandonment of an application does not necessarily create an entitlement to a refund.

Yes cryptocurrency gaming operators can apply, however they will still need to do the following assessments:

  • Customer identification
  • Wallet and transaction monitoring
  • Source of funds assessment
  • Sanctions screening
  • Blockchain risk analysis
  • Fraud prevention
  • Record keeping
  • Security of digital assets

The acceptance of cryptocurrency does not reduce the operator’s AML/CTF, player protection or financial obligations.

A B2C license may cover multiple approved gaming verticals where they are included within the license scope and supported by the applicant’s systems and compliance controls.

A License must obtain any required approval before introducing a materially different product or gaming vertical.

A B2C license may cover multiple approved operational domains.

Each domain must be submitted to and approved by the Authority before it is used for licensed gaming activities.

An additional fee of €300 per approved domain applies.

A license may not be transferred, sold, sublicensed or assigned without prior approval.

A proposed transfer or change of control is subject to regulatory review and may require:

  • A formal transfer application
  • New ownership disclosures
  • Beneficial owner due diligence
  • Key person assessments
  • Updated business and financial information
  • Payment of applicable fees

The existing License remains responsible until the transfer is formally approved.
